The village of Pluckley in Kent is famous throughout southeastern England because according to many eyewitnesses, at least 12 ghosts live there. In terms of architecture, there is no particular difference from other similar settlements, except the old cozy houses and courtyards.
One can get to Pluckley for only 40 minutes from London by bus. It receives many tourists every year because of its haunted places and paranormal activities which can be recorded once you learn how to use a spirit box, such as the one by Paranormic. Being home to just 1000 people, Pluckley was considered the most haunted village in England in 1989 by the Guinness World Records. Due to many spooky incidents, Pluckley has at least 12 ghosts, to which the locals are already accustomed and do not consider them unnecessary.
Highyway Ghost
Around 200 years ago, a robber was impaled with a sword and pinned to a tree with a spear in the village park. It is said that this bloody drama is played over here every night.
A ghost of the robber walks around the place called Freight Corner, where the hollow oak once stood.
Misty Gypsy Ghost
It is often said that near the Pinnock Bridge at the crossroads, a ghost of the pipe-smoking gypsy wrapped in a tattered shawl is seen. Once she was burned there under very mysterious circumstances, and since then, her ghost has not left this place. Her ghost appears as a misty figure sitting on the bridge and smokes a pipe.

Ghost Of A School Teacher
From time to time, a ghost of the school teacher appears on Dicky Buss’s Lane, who was found hanged by his students. It was right after WWI, and it was said that he took his own life because of an unrequited feeling. On moonlit nights, the ghostly teacher sways among the laurel branches. Quite often, a phantom appears in front of passers-by in inclement windy weather, the same when he hanged himself.
Red Lady
St. Nicholas, a local church is rumored to have been home to the ghost of beautiful Lady Dering, who died in the 12th century. She was buried in a luxurious dress, with a red rose in her hands.
Her body was placed in a lead coffin which was enclosed in a huge oak chest and buried in an underground crypt under the church. Her ghost still walks through the church cemetery to this day.
Hauntings Of Black Miller
A rather creepy ghost of Pluckley is the Black Miller, who lives in the ruins of a windmill that was destroyed in the storm. He appears every time during a thunderstorm. Residents have long learned to use it to determine bad weather. But why is the ghost called black? Perhaps he (Richard ‘Dicky’ Buss, owner of the windmill) was struck by a lightning during the thunderstorm.
Screaming Man
But the creepiest one is a screaming man. Once a worker from the brick factory was filled up with clay in a quarry. For several days, the screams of the buried alive were heard from under the rubble. And after his death, they became even louder. Now, these terrible screams are heard even in the neighboring village.
Empty Ghost Carriage
But perhaps the most mysterious ghost of Pluckley is an empty ghost carriage drawn by four phantom horses. The road leading from Pluckley to neighboring Maltman’s Hill is visited by a ghostly carriage harnessed by four horses. According to locals, at night, they can hear the clatter of horse hooves and the creak of the wheels of a carriage passing along the deserted road. There are no photographs of ghosts, but many eyewitnesses from all over the world claim that there are indeed ghosts in this place. The locals have long been accustomed to their unusual neighbors. In 2011, a group of paranormal researchers arrived in the village. Although the group arrived in Pluckley during the cold weather, a huge swarm of flies hit the village. Because of this, the study had to be postponed.
